HSU was the prime contractor on this series of projects to upgrade the National Zoo, one of the most highly visited tourist attractions in the country. These projects involved mainly fire suppression system installations and utilities permitting, demolition, sitework, and installation of highly technical equipment.
Upgrades included:
The Great Ape House: New wet pipe sprinkler & fire alarm system installed throughout the building, including the public areas, keeper areas, and animal areas
Think Tank: Exterior water line installed in phases to feed the new fire protection system and keep the Olmstead Walk open
Life safety system upgrades
Modernization of architectural features, including finishes, lighting in the lobbies and conference rooms (Lion & Tiger House), exterior site work, including new concrete, asphalt, and pavers, to restore the public access areas to pre-construction conditions
