Quantico Lighting

  • Contract Value: $2,569,986

  • Location: Marine Corps Base Quantico, Quantico, VA

  • Owner: NAVFAC

HSU was the prime contractor on this project that involved upgrading the lighting system of over 1,200 street lamps.  The old lamps were converted to an energy-efficient LED lighting system.

The initial phase of the project involved a comprehensive design survey of each lamp post and lighting system to determine current energy consumption and overall condition.  After the survey was analyzed, HSU began the expansive effort of repair and replacement of the actual systems.  The lamp posts were located throughout the 86 square mile Marine Corps base-some with remote locations as far as 45 minutes away from the jobsite staging area.  HSU adjusted the installation schedule to meet the Owner's priorities.  The work was performed over the course of one year without any safety, quality, or other issues.

HSU managed multiple operations and provided extensive traffic control to avoid disrupting the daily operations of this mission critical facility.  HSU was also required to work in and around the highly sensitive airfield.

HSU worked collaboratively with NAVFAC to track numerous changes in scope and locations resulting in an overall credit change order to the Owner.  HSU also collaborated with the High Voltage Shop and Owner to mitigate challenges of unknown conditions, such as unpowered poles, and poles with additional functionality issues.  As an additional added value to the Owner, HSU resolved multiple small issues, which were beyond what was contractually required, to quickly make poles and fixtures operational, at no additional cost.
